Penguin / Developments

I have started from creating two different versions of the cover. First one is more serious containing barbed wires relating back to the nature of the novel. The second example is more a cartoony style. After receiving feedback from people I decided to go with the first idea mainly because of it highlights what the book is about and the dark themes set the mood for the rest of the novel. I have been also suggested to change a font style as this is one is way too simple and is the weakest part of the design. Also, I have been suggested to try different background colours.

As suggested I have tried different colours, but they made the design look very plain and not very interesting. I have decided to stick with the white background. Keeping the color palette to three colours also maintains an uncluttered and overbearing composition, whilst the title text with the use of brush strokes and barbed wires implement a background story of Stalinism and totalitarianism which is included in the book. The last feedback was very positive as the new font made it look more appealing and suitable for the book theme.
