Individual Practice - Choosing a brief & Initial Ideas

1. UK Greetings

Create your own range of greeting cards and gift dressings.

Brief:

Imagine nipping out to the high-street, or a cool little local shop, or even the place you buy your food, and seeing your designs on display. UK Greetings is the UK’s leading direct-to-retailer publisher, making innovative, beautiful, cutting edge and classic greeting cards and gift dressings. We want you to develop your own collection of greeting cards and gift dressings.
Creative Challenge:
Create a collection of greeting cards, note cards, notepads, gift bags and wrapping paper.
We are open to any graphic or illustrative style — geometric patterns, painterly illustrations, designs that feature characters or that use humour in a playful way.
You should come up with a name for your collection too.
Remember to have variety within the range, but make sure your designs comfortably sit together to create a cohesive collection.
We’d also like you to demonstrate how your ideas work as a collection, so one of your design sheets should show your work displayed together.
Initial Ideas:
greeting cars, note cards, notepads, gift bags and wrapping paper.
- Gifting seasons: Christmas, Birthday, General
- A collection of humorous cards for special occasions.
Research: Clintons, Card Factory, Scribbler
2. Quorn
Create a campaign to encourage the world to go meat free for one day.
Brief:
Create a campaign to encourage the world to participate in World Meat Free Day 2017.
Creative Challenge:
We would like you to create a campaign to promote World Meat Free Day and encourage people to go meat free for the day.
How do we explain the problem and create a solution that people across the globe can understand and get involved in to make a change. The first step in what we hope will become a longer-term behavior change.
Think about how your campaign can encourage people to make long-term changes to their consumer behavior beyond World Health Day. Encourage people continue to feature meat free meals in their day-to day lives. Healthy for them and healthy for the planet!
A creative hook and execution is needed to help us do this!
Think about which channels you will use to execute your campaign. Will you create an animation to share on social media? Or perhaps some posters to be used within the supermarkets.
Initial Ideas:
Posters, leaflets, handouts, stickers including facts, statistics, photos
3. The grown up chocolate company
Create an original and inventive packaging design for a new personalised chocolate product.
Brief:
Create an original and inventive packaging design for a new personalised chocolate product.
Creative Challenge:
We are set to launch an exciting new product that will allow our customers to customise their own chocolate bars from a list of 100 quality (and grown up!) ingredients — from hazelnuts to almonds, cinnamon to sea salt.
Available via our online e-commerce site only, customers will not only be able to customise the flavours of their bars, but design the wrapper of each bar by uploading graphics, photographs and other images — to create a product that’s entirely unique.
Customers will be able to create three 100g bars at a time, which will be presented in a box and wrapped in an outer sleeve — which we’d like you to design.
We’re open to ideas, and are seeking original, surprising designs that use the simple box and outer wrapper format in an inventive, creative way.
The box and outer sleeve might take inspiration from the creative thinking involved in personalising the bars and the wrappers, or allude to the mystery of what might be inside — but should primarily promote our brand and capture our playful personality.
In addition to the packaging, we’d also like you to design a landing page, that will present the product to customers when they click through our e-commerce site to explore the customised product. The webpage design should reference the packaging to create a cohesive image for the new concept.
The UK chocolate market is a crowded one, with many iconic and established chocolate bar brands vying for attention. Your designs should play a part in helping us stand out.
Initial Ideas:
- Illustrative chocolate packaging
