Design for screen - From print to screen

While the fundamental aspects of good design very much apply - size, colour, position, white space, typographical best practice and more  - there are many unique characteristics that make transitioning from print to screen a challenge.

I have identified couple of primary differences to be considered when designing for screen rather than print.

Use of various media:

Use of various media is the first thing. While printing you are limited only to pictures and words, while on the web you can chose from a range of different media to use and tell your story. Clever use of video, audio and user interactions may help to gain more attention to your project, causing them to spend more time on you website/app etc or either spend money to buy things also recommend it to friends or family.

Space is limited:

Wile printing your space is limited as by the amount of the page you can use. It means you are limited to use words and pictures on the page. You need to get all your key messages only on a single spread. On the other hand some stuff would look much more better or effective while printing than on the screen. Also single spreed needs lees attention than on the web. Using effective key message or even a single sentence on the print sometimes would be more effective as the reader would remember it more quickly than the whole video etc.

Relationship and Developers:

Successful digital design combine a number of different technologies and requiring different skills. It is quite hard to have all the skills to create a complete web experience. As you might be good at designing, layouts, designing engaging text, but it is not enough to complete a web. Without the knowledge of how to code PHP and JavaScript your website unintelligent.

Sizing:

While designing a digital experience there is many platforms to consider. The screen would require different layout adaptions. For example on desktop, phone screen, laptop, tablet and more...
