What are you ashamed of? / Initial Ideas

                                                                       Ideas for Concept

- To create a website similar to Rora Blue 'Unsent Project'. The website will allow people to send their anonymous responses. All the responses will be published online for people to read.
Also to create a leaflet/double-sided card promoting the website with some of the responses and info on the back, which could be given out to people in shops/on the street etc. - Target audience 16+

- To create a publication with the use of photography, illustrations, and anonymous responses. A limited edition which could be published in bookstores with the target audience 16+

- To create posters with submitted responses. The posters could be given out or stuck around the city/ university.

- To create a publication in a form of letters. Each submission could be handwritten by each person and put into an envelope. All letters could be gathered in one box and sold in bookstores.

                                                                    Name Ideas
- My secret
- Things I am ashamed of
- What are you ashamed of?
- Shameful Secrets

I have asked people in my class to vote and help me chose the most appropriate name. The most favorite one was 'Shameful Secrets' as the name explains clearly what this is about and is very simple but powerful at the same time.

What are you ashamed of? / Anonymity

In colloquial use, "anonymous" is used to describe situations where the acting person's name is unknown. Some writers have argued that namelessness, though technically correct, does not capture what is more centrally at stake in contexts of anonymity. The important idea here is that a person be non-identifiable, unreachable, or untrackable. Anonymity is seen as a technique, or a way of realizing, certain other values, such as privacy, or liberty. source

The effect of anonymity / Disinhibition

Influencing factors. Anonymity, asynchronous communication, and empathy deficit contribute to online disinhibition. Anonymity can make a person feel safe online, like a different person, one might even take on a new persona. Possible influencing factors toward online disinhibition include anonymity, invisibility, asynchronous communication, empathy deficit, in addition to individual factors like personality and culture background. The manifestations of such effect could be in both positive and negative directions. Thus online disinhibition could be classified as benign disinhibition or toxic disinhibition. source

What are you ashamed of? / Found Magazie

While doing a research I have found a website called 'Found Magazine' is a bit different to the previous ones I have found, as the website is a repository of lost love letters, cards, lists, photographs – all the little scraps that we lose, that someone else finds. Found Magazine is updated, in principle, by its readers. All of the photos and notes featured on the site are sent in by readers. Found Magazine will make people smile, will make them think, and might even make them cry. Their merchandise includes t-shirts and greeting cards.

What are you ashamed of? / The Unsent Project

The unsent project is an art project created by Rora Blue, where members of the public fill out an online form with the name of their first love and text message they wish they'd sent them. They also pick a colour to associate with their first love.

The online form is anonymous, so people can write how they feel without the fear or judgment.
This project is really inspiring me and I really like the idea of the individual submitting anonymously something personal and all the submissions create a pleasing design outcome.

"My goal was to find out what colour most people see love in. As I created the collage, I was pleasantly surprised to find that love is seen in the full spectrum of colour. I wanted to create something that was visually appealing from a distance but emotional and meaningful up close," Rora Blue

No matter how old we get, we all remember our first love. But what would you say to yours if you had the chance?

What are you ashamed of? - Plan

As the project is small I wanted to organise it so it could help me plan out the project in relation to time and resources. I have booked a print slot after Easter to print out my practical element.

Anti-hunting Campaign - Wood work

As we wanted to push our collaboration further with the use of new materials, we decided to create pin badges made of wood. We used wood as it symbolizes power and courage also deer's environment which is a forest. Our first step was to transfer the image to the adobe illustrator and with the use of a pen tool, we had to outline the shape of the image.

Our first attempts were a bit of fail mainly because we chose wrong options so at first the printer colored the inside part of the deer and made an extra outline of the image. The second attempt was a fail as well as the details of the deer's face, were too thin. It made it quite difficult to see it from the distance.

After a bit of experimentation, we finally found a way to create our pin badge in the way we want it to be. This is the final pin badge made of wood with the use of laser printer. We used engraving to add details of the deer's face and then the image has been cut out.

Secret 7 / Initial Ideas

Initial ideas began by taking the research into the lyrics of the song and applying them to potential concepts. A mind map always helps me to visualize my thoughts and organize them into possibilities can be developed.

While listening to the song it gives an impression of the melancholy/ depression, suffering but at the same time, the song is hopeful and cheerful.

Anti-hunting Campaign - Brand Name

Our next step was to create a brand name. The thought process was similar while designing a brand symbol to create something simple and easy to recognize, but also trendy (professional with an edge).
It is meant to be short and catchy but also questions the viewers leading them to think more about the matter at hand. It does not ‘force’ a message but subtly suggests a memorandum.

We have gathered all different words associated with deer and hunting to create appealing brand name:

mind, heatless, fear, soul, forest, death, kill, nature, conscience, skin, trees, wild, target, vulnerable, hunt, money, clothes, headshot, unexpected, ignorant, business, fashion, action, sudden, Christmas, fun, sport, action, shoot, violence, compassion, cruel, end.

From those words, we tried to create a short brand name and slogan. We have also created an online questionnaire to ask the public audience which brand name and slogan is the most appropriate one. We have received 14 responses.

Brand Name

* Shoot Me               4 votes
* Why Shoot Me?    6 votes
* Oh Deer                 1 vote
* Pulse                      3 votes

Slogan

* 'Shot for fashion'                                           7
* 'Animals do not want to be worn'                 0
* 'Would you kill in the name of fashion?'      1
* 'Compassion over fashion?'                          4
* 'Animal fur = human skin'                            1
* 'End violent fashion'                                     1

Below are final brand name and slogan which we decided to use for our branding. The brand name and slogan is matching together as the brand name is a question and the slogan answers it.

Brand name: Why Shoot Me?
Slogan: Shoot for Fashion

Secret 7 / Research

I have decided to go with the song called 'I saved the world today' by Eurythmics. Eurythmics were a British music duo consisting of members Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart. The band was formed in 1980.

Research began with analyzing the lyrics within the song, to pull out potential concepts.

I saved the world today is a song which verses are filled with melancholy. While listening to the chorus it gives a feeling that the song will get positive but combining it with its content and the rest of the verses, the meaning of the song becomes apparent and consistent. 'I saved the world today' is sarcastically being used to criticise our indifference to the plight of those suffering. Most likely, the song is about protecting the world (or at least the closet people). To protect it form ourselves and souls which are full of hidden pain (verse two). The text is related to our behavior - as we hiding our pain and problems from everyone trying to suppress them, this usually leads to loneliness. A slightly ironic text in the background shows the essence of those behaviors, which are really worth of considering.

That look at the end. It's like saying "you know this is a lie" "I've saved the world today" Is just what everyone WANTS to say, or at least to hear, and it's the lie we've been fed countless of times by the higher ranks... "please let it stay" it's the truthful message... she's pleading the people in charge to do the right thing, to let peace stay. but we all know that's not going to happen. The officials just indefferntly do their thing. Playing war or peace is just the same to them.

Lyrics

Monday finds you like a bomb
That's been left ticking there too long
You're bleeding
Some days there's nothing left to learn
From the point of no return
You're leaving
Hey Hey I saved the world today
Everybody's happy now
The bad thing's gone away
And everybody's happy now
The good thing's here to stay
Please let it stay
There's a million mouths to feed
And I've got everything I need
I'm breathing
And there's a hurting thing inside
But I've got everything to hide
I'm grieving
Hey Hey I saved the world today
Everybody's happy now
The bad thing's gone away
And everybody's happy now
The good thing's here to stay
Please let it stay
Let it stay
Let it stay
Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo the good thing
